Short summary
This work studies the dynamical linkages, local wave parameters, and subseasonal predictability of three successive blocking events that are associated with continual extreme events during May–June 2023. These blocks are interconnected via downstream Rossby wave energy dispersion and are dominated by the regime of slowly propagating, large-amplitude planetary-scale waves. Predictability beyond two weeks depends on capturing upstream quasi-stationary troughs and the associated energy dispersion.
